The Latin Seed, weight loss wonder? Plant some magic weight loss seeds to grow a money tree!

30 Oct

A friend of mine commented to me about how she saw advertising at her local health food shop for a new kind of seed that was supposed to help with weight loss. Interested in what this seed may be, my friend and I scoured the internet for more information.

The Latin seed (as it is being marketed) is apparently the greatest thing since starvation to help with weight loss! The Latin Seed website smells iffy to me. The website boasts of the amazing powers of this Latin Seed yet shows no pictures of it and gives no real explanation of what it is exactly. You need to break it up and put it in some hot water for 5 minutes and then drink the water and the seed.  Also, people using the seed must eat potassium for some reason… again not stated.

With some more digging I discovered that this Latin Seed is actually not some exotic seed, it is actually a Candlenut which grows wild in Queensland! apparently this Candlenut can be highly toxic and hence why this Latin Seed company is telling consumers to put a small amount of the seed in hot water.

So a Willy Wonka style golden envelope with seeds inside it and $100 later, many seem to be discovering the trick to this marketing ploy.

After reading some consumer forums and what people are experiencing from this seed, it seems as though it is doing more harm than good. For most with weight issues, it is a struggle to lose weight and so they cling to any sign of hope no matter how dodgy the offer may be.

The Latin Seed. Other wise known as Candlenut or Nuez Da India

Something that made me laugh was when someone on a forum asked if a cheaper version of this seed could be purchased anywhere, one of the owners of the Latin Seed company piped up and stated

“It is important to understand that the seed draws nutrients from the environment in which it is grown and cultivated. The dark earth of the Amazon basin is known to be unique in both its fertility and nutrients; producing medicinal plant qualities not able to be replicated anywhere else in the world. Our seeds come from this region and were selected because the benefits they produce are unique- as experienced by many thousands of people in Australia and around the world.”

Yes. Nice marketing spin! I applaud that… but people will see through that explanation…. and when this company has made their thousands of dollars from their money tree they won’t mind if the demand drops off. They can turn their home Epson printer off from printing its amateur posters and stickers for the magical golden envelopes of weight loss seeds! (It would be funny if when you opened the envelope, magical sounding music played like a musical card!)

It is astounding to me how changing a name of something and promoting different benefits of a product can either increase or decrease sales. Think about this: generally, if something really was so amazing, you’d be hearing about it on every news program and the word of mouth feedback would be coming at you from all kinds of sources.

Note to self: find a use for garden dirt and sell it for $100 a grain…. but only from my garden…. because of its healing properties that nobody elses garden holds.

March 16 2011

Latest news reports note that The Latin seed is toxic and the products have been recalled by the NSW health authority. As we have discovered here on my comments page over the past year and a bit, many people have experienced a number of health problems with this seed (other wise known as the candlenut) and I am glad to know that this has been exposed. A number of commenters have seemed to have such faith that his product was working for them despite the fact that they were sick on a regular basis. This worried me. Please, if you wish to be healthy and control you weight do it through healthy eating and excersice. Gimmicks don’t last.

Do you know for sure its fake? It did sound iffy to me. Very expensive too!

    • belindabel November 28, 2009 at 9:20 am #

Hi Sue, the evidence I have is the number of people complaining about it online. Im not a doctor or a scientist so I can’t say for sure, but seems like interesting marketing tactics to me.

Ive been on this latin seed for a month now…aswel as eating healthy and exercising 5 days a week…i have lost 2 kilos which is probably to do with the exercising not the seed. what a joke! I feel bloated, nausea, muscle pain, headaches and tiredness which made me feel like crap at work! 100 bux for this pack of bullshit. I look like a fool..anyway my point is…just do it the natural healthy and in moderation and exercise. if the latin seed was sooooo good…wouldnt everyone be on it? wouldnt it be selling off the shelves like hot cakes….hmmmm yeah my point exactly! peace

Latin Seed seemed like a sham from the start…….hope the so called “founders” get what they deserve!!! What a joke!

    • belindabel December 5, 2009 at 5:41 am #

      Hi Maggie,
I would be interested to see how you go with it. I hope that it actually does work for you! Looking forward to hearing your reports.

I have been on Latin seed for almost a year and have lost 29 kg whilst taking it with no side affects, no sickness, no anything what so ever. Latin seed has allowed me to live a normal life for the first time in my whole life as I have been morbidly obese most of it.I pray that all is sorted out and it becomes available again as I don’t know what I will do if it doesn’t having tried every single diet known.

    Hi ladies,
I began on the latin seed a week ago after seeing two friends of mine after 3 months of being on the seed with awesome results! I mean, these girls were overweight and now are slim! I was very iffy about it when they told me about it 3 months ago and after seeing them had to get it as the results are there right in front of me. I spoke to my doctor about it and she said she has had lots of patients use it and have great results. Not simply in the weight loss department but for diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. I am a registered nurse and so is my friend who is on the seed so im not some promotions manager trying to rave. I measured and weighed myself before i started but am not going to measure myself for a month. So lets see what happens!

    • sue February 9, 2010 at 6:56 am #

Hi Simone – how is it going???

    • ren April 6, 2010 at 8:29 pm #

      how are your results?

  4. Kathy January 1, 2010 at 5:44 am #

I have been doing some research on the latin seed and came across this site. I myself have not tried the seed, but was put onto it by a couple of friends that are on it and seriously have lost heaps of weight. It must do something good, I saw for myself, my friend has been fat since I have known her, more than 10 years, and now she’s looking great! I am willing to give it a go myself, but the cost, way too much, so here I am looking for a cheaper way to do it.

    • Alicia April 16, 2010 at 6:17 am #

Kathy, my neice and sisters are using it in mexico, one of my sisters that is using it, came to visit last week and she lost so much weight. I going to try the candle nut or nuez de la india as they called it in Mexico. Good Luck

  5. Natalia January 4, 2010 at 12:21 am #

Candlenuts are used in Asian cooking. You can buy bags of candlenuts for only a few dollars at an Asian grocer. While I’m pretty doubtful that it would work, if people really want to try the candlenut, head over to your local Asian supermarket where the dried stuff is and pick up a very cheap pack. You can also get a pack of goji berries (or wolfberries as we call them) for $4 as well.

seed causes diuresis-so weight loss.potassium is lost in urine too. enthusiasm means less food will be eaten for a while and so there will be some weight loss. there is need to replace lost potassium. too much potassium though can cause death by cardiac arrest. lost weight as with virtually any diet/product will quickly return and so the classic ‘yo yo’ effect is seen.’restricted caloric intake and exercise is the safest way to reduce weight and is also best for cardiovascular too is limited in what it can achieve. excessive eating is almost always related to ’emotional deprivation’and ‘constitution’.fat parents have fat children.sedentary lifestyle.depression and ‘stress’play a is rarely considered but kwashiorkor(protein-energy malnutrition)may be present in many

I have been clutching at straws for years to find something other than ‘will power’ to help me lose weight.
I am glad that I found your site before I threw good money after bad on plain old ‘candlenuts’ which I see every time I go shopping.
Thanks for taking the time to inform us.

Hi there, I have been on the latin seed for about three months now, i had some side effects, tiredness, feeling unwell to start with but reduced the amount of seed to 1/8th every 2nd night and it has worked wonders – i have lost about 4 kilos/per month. I also have gall stones and am waiting for a date to have them removed since being on the seed have had no attacks and no pain. – i thought it was conincidence but when i stopped taking the seed when we were on holidays over christmas for 2 weeks the pain returned within two days of taking the seed again all gall pain was gone.
It works for me and for $100 with the supply lasting me coming up to 4 months i dont think that is expensive at all compared to any other weight loss product on the market.
    Good luck all.

  9. Amanda February 17, 2010 at 5:43 am #

Hi Belinda, I have used the latin seed for 6 weeks and i didnt tell anyone. My children noticed firstly while i was getting dressed. then a work collegue who i hadnt seen for a few weeks commented on how much weight i had lose, the good thing is you eat normally and dont have to starve yourself. I felt fantastic and my skin was perfect a few weeks into taking the latin seed. I think its great.

    • Alicia March 23, 2011 at 12:03 pm #

I agree I went on the Latin seed just before christmas 2010 and spent $80 on the purchase of the latinseed. I have lost 12 kilo’s. I have eaten normal the whole time, my skin is flawless (never use to be) i feel great. I only did the latinseed for the 2 month supply given. I think no matter what the diet, daily exercise is a must. I have been off the latinseed for about 6 weeks now, i have not gained anymore weight I have actually lost another 2 kilo’s. I think ppl just want to sit on a couch and take a magic pill. It doesn’t work like that. I believe this seed really did work for me and i felt better then i ever have on it. 🙂

  10. Loraine February 26, 2010 at 6:06 am #

Hi everyone, I am constantly on the internet reviewing products and came upon this one. I would like to tell you about my experience too. I am 45 years old and started using the latin seed in december. I didn’t loose any kgs on the scale but my clothes definately fits better and I again fit into my size 10 pants which I could not wear for about 2 years. My friends all comment to me that I have lost weight and another thing is that my skin feels much tighter and less “flabby” and my husband commented that I hardly have any cellulite left. I was also weary because I could not understand how such a small amount of a seed can actually make one loose weight but so far so good!!! Good luck to everyone else trying it.

  11. Dee March 21, 2010 at 4:57 am #

So, is this product from the Amazon or QLD?
If it is just Candlenut from QLD why is the Latin spin more appealing?!
does it work ? despite the crappy marketing and name??
I am 23 kilos over weight and have tried so many things. I’m quite desperate, will this help? Do I by the product or not??

    • belindabel March 21, 2010 at 8:32 am #

Hi Dee, The company states that their seeds are from the Amazon which gives them “special” benefits, however the same plant does grow in Queensland. Judging by others comments on here it’s working for some people, but if I were you I’d spend the money and visit a dietitian or a doctor who can give you scientific blood tests to find out why you aren’t loosing weight rather than throwing money away on something that might not work. That’s my 2 cents. Good luck!

    • Tammy July 31, 2010 at 1:00 am #

Hi Dee I have started the Latin Seed about 2 weeks ago , I have felt tired and am constantly having to go to the toilet!! lol I will get back and let u know how I go, i was told u wont see results until at least a month.

  12. Dee March 21, 2010 at 1:37 pm #

good point Belinda!!! and thanks for you info, i really appreciated it .

I have been one the Nut Of India “candlenut” for three months and finding it cheaper is a good thing. But you really have to follow directions. No more than a quarter of the nut aday. It can poison your system not following the proper dose. I have lost 18 pounds in 3 months. It does not go up and down weekly, slowly dropping each week. A banana to replace potassium,a B complex, lots of water and yogurt. This is the first no effort weightloss. Yes you should work out and change your eating habits. but you loss either way. I still feel there needs to be more studies on the nut to be safe. but it does work and I’m not stopping using it till I hit my goal.

  14. Dee April 6, 2010 at 3:59 am #

I have trialled the Latin seed before becoming a distributor for it. I have also done some investigation into the seed before recommending it to my clients. It contains very high amounts of omega oils and if you compare it to the chia seeds it doesnt work out that much more expensive. I recommend 1/8 of a seed each day. For 12 seeds that works out to 96 days worth and therefore works out alot cheaper than any other weight loss product. compare it to 800g of protein supplement drinks like isowhey cost about $60.00 and that will give you one dose per day for 26days. Not only does Latin seed help with weight loss but it stimulates the digestion and rids parasites, amongst other things.

    • Alicia April 16, 2010 at 6:28 am #

Dee why so expensive? I got mine 16.5 oz/500grs x $4.69 plus s&h $8.20 total of $12.89 I paid more por S & H than the seeds. Big difference in prices from 60.00 for few seeds to 4.69 for a pound of seeds about 80 seeds.

      • Fairy May 5, 2010 at 11:25 am #

hey, where you got these seeds from, please give me the details… I am on these seeds for 10 days now, have lost 3 pounds…

Hi everyone. I’m glad that so many people are checking out this blog post and commenting on it. However lets all put our synical hats on. What about if the people posting most of the comments on this thread are actually the companies themselves that are selling this seed and are posting good things about it as false names? I am a tech savvy marketing manager, I know the way things can be played. Now I am not saying this is what’s happening, but it could be.

    • Alicia April 16, 2010 at 6:39 am #

Belindabel you are right about your doughts about the positive reviews, some companies do that. I am not selling or gainning anything from the positive review I just posted few comments up. I am very upset about some people taking advantage of others by selling this very cheap seeds at very expensive price. Please freind dont let others take advantage of you. buy your seeds at Indonesian markets at very reasonable price i got mine for 4.69. I so good results on my niece and sisters they also paid very expensive price in mexico, good thing I got it for good price I going to send them some. Good luck to all of you. Thanks Belinabel for starting this topic.

      • belindabel April 16, 2010 at 12:49 pm #

hey belindabel, do you have to be such a synical person! yes it is a candlenut and it is working for these people, I HAVE SEEN THIS WORK AND HAVE BEEN ON THE DIET YO YO FOR 25 YEARS AND HAVE FINALLY FOUND SOMETHING THAT WORKS! leave it alone maybe you should give it a try or are you one of those people who does not have a weight problem! every one has a view on the latin seed , but don’t knock it until you have tried it!!!!!

      • belindabel October 8, 2010 at 11:25 am #

This is a marketing blog. I am not a doctor as clearly stated. I don’t care about the product. I am allowed to make comments about marketing.

  33. Stella July 16, 2010 at 5:26 am #

I have just finished reading through all of the comments that have been made here about The Latin Seed. Most of them are great and sing the products praises, and some are not, which is to be expected I suppose.
Unlike many people, I did my homework before I actually tried The Latin Seed, and I loved it that much that I became a stockist.
These seeds ARE grown in Brazil and once harvested, they are then exported directly to The Latin Seed (Lumsden Health) right here in Australia and packaged. Before “The Latin Seed” went onto the Australian market, it passed the rigorous scientific and nutritional tests that we have here in this country. Why is it being imported rather than grown here? Well that has everything to do with the differences between the soil, environment, temperature and water fall here in Australia, compared to that of Brazil. It then stands to reason that the constitution of a candlenut grown here in Australia would obviously be slightly different to one grown overseas.
To everyone that has commented on how great they are doing on The Latin Seed, well done and keep up the good work! To those who have tried it but didn’t like it, well not everyone finds that it suits them, so good for you for giving it a go and good luck in the future.

  34. Tita July 19, 2010 at 4:52 am #

Hi just read these comments. I just purchased the candlenuts at an asian market. Has anyone actually tried it. Are sure these are the same as the India nut. Before I start taking them just wondering if they are the same.

    • Tita July 22, 2010 at 7:57 am #

can anybody please answer my question about the candle nut thanks!!!

      • belindabel July 22, 2010 at 12:41 pm #

yes the candlenut is the latin seed

    • olivera July 29, 2010 at 3:33 pm #

i just got this from a site called herbies spices

      Re: Latin Seed
At HERBIE’S SPICES We only sell our herbs and spices for culinary use, and recommend consulting a reputable health professional before using any of our products for therapeutic use.
Our Candle Nut should always be cooked before using as a food, and should never be eaten raw, as it contains alkaloids that are destroyed as part of the cooking process, making it safe to eat.
We do not sell the product that comes from a different geographic location to our Candle Nut and is sold as Latin Seed.

  35. Nena July 23, 2010 at 2:22 am #

I have started taking the Latin Seed five days ago and so far I can’t see any progress. The only thing that happened is that I am constipated and I have never had that problem in my life.
Can someone tell me what to expect?

  36. Stella July 23, 2010 at 2:51 am #

As I mentioned in my previous post, The Latin Seed is Brazialian Candlenut, and was chosen because of it’s unique qualities, which do differ from those that are grown elsewhere in the world, including here in Australia.
Personally speaking, I would have no idea where a candlenut that was purchased in an Asian market came from. Where was it grown? Is it organic? Has it been sprayed with pesticides? Has it been tested? You truely have no idea what it is that you are ingesting.
It is these questions that led me to The Latin Seed (Brazilian Candlenut). I know where it was grown, how it was grown, and that it has passed the stringent testing that is required here in Australia. In my opinion, The Latin Seed is the only one that can be truely trusted. I hope this helps you Tita.

  37. Tori July 24, 2010 at 6:17 pm #

Hi, I just read through all the posts…I too would be skeptical except my son brought them home telling me about 3 employees that have all lost about 40 to 80 pounds. He wants to do more research before taking them. I have tried to find info and this was the ONLY site that came up. I cant even find but one site to purchase them at. I have now heard it referred to as three different names…”Nuez de la India”,” Brazilian Candle nut” and “the Latin seed” oops and the Asian Candle nut. If they are the same thing why so many names. A coffee bean is a coffee bean no matter where it is grown.
If it is really poison why would anyone want to put it in their body? How would I go about finding out if it is really poisonous?
I am happy that I found this site and I will forward it to others that have questions. If anyone has other sites they can direct me towards I would appreciate it. Thank you.

  38. Joanne July 25, 2010 at 1:17 am #

I think you’ve got to worry about this so called “Latin Seed”. i read in one blog there that the weightloss.potassium is lost in urine and to much potassium can casue death by cardiac arrest. This alone would tell me don’t take it. You have got to wonder about this seed, don’t care if it’s Latin Seed or Candlewood you don’t need it.
I have been doing weight watchers for 9wks now and have lost 10kilos dropped 2 sizes and feel fantastic. You can get the same affect doing it the healthy way and not risking your life. It’s all about changing your life style and making sure you exercise. I lost my weight just by walking 30-60 minutes everyday and watching what i eat of cause….We all know what’s good for us so just do it. i find with weight watchers i can still do the normal things in life. i can still have a drink and go out for dinner, just means i might have to walk an hour instead of half an hour. Trust me weight watchers is the way go don’t be fooled by these gimmick pills/seeds n diets

my sister lost heaps of weight on latin seed. She has an underactive thyroid. It was gradual like over a few months but it worked for her, she’s gone down a hell of a lot in size

    • Mel September 14, 2010 at 1:41 am #

Totally agree about Weight Watchers, it’s more family & user friendly.Have gone from a size 22 – 14, watched what I ate and walked almost everywhere!I live just a stone’s throw away from train station but walk to the next suburb to catch train!
It’s a much more sensible way to lose and keep weight off!

Do not buy from Candlenut Co. – run by scammer Mario A. Roker.
He has hurt many in business.

    Hi all,

I have read every post in this forum/blog and taken on board all comments. My wife started using the Latn Seed about 2 months ago. She did lose a little weight (not that there was anything to lose) and found her bowl movements were improving.

In saying that however, she also started to watch what she ate and was now walking 3km each day. So, the question is is this……

Was it the Latin Seed or the change of diet and excersise?

In my opinion it was the later. A healthy diet in combination with regular excersise is alway going to be the healthy option. There are NO wounder cures for weit lose or feeling healthy. Give the excersise and diet change a go. You have nothing to loose and about $100.00 every couple of months to gain.

Oh, and by the way, the mind is a very powerful tool as well. If you believe in something so much it will appear to work. All the other things you do to change are not given a second thought.

    Please consider……..

I would be interested to know whether anyone taking any other type of Candlenut has actually lost weight.

Could people please clarify which Candlenut they took when they lost weight!

We have no idea whom on this forum, is a reseller of The Latin Nut – just pushing it for their own financial gain.

We need an unbiased view – or the results of controlled trials ie comparisons of both types of nuts – published before we can truly believe that the Brazilian Candlenut has superior qualities over other varieties.

I will be trying both candlenut varieties myself but would like to see others experiences.

    Many Thanks

I have been on the Latin seed for months now and would not take anything else. i can vouch for this product and couldn’t speak more highly of it. My granddaughter came across this site and i am appalled by the negativity it has against what i call my magic seeds. For those of you stuggling like myself to make ends meet, i understand, its hard to pay the $100 price tag. i saved a little here and there to finally buy a pack and it was the best decision i made. It was hard with so many products out there but i am glad i did this.
I presume you have not used it yourself Belinda, is this correct? I noticed there has not been many entries from you Belinda as it looks like you have moved on to the next one. I’m sure you don’t liked to be judged by someone before they meet you so maybe you should give it ago first before trying convince others of your decision.

    • Marylynne September 14, 2010 at 2:48 am #

If you buy it on ebay it is WAYYY CHEAPER. i was getting mine shipped from a friend of a friend in California to Alabama for fourty bucks, and i got TWICE as much for thirty on ebay. Just look up “nuez de la india” . It definately DOES work at first i was skeptical bc of course common sense would tell you that a little nut isnt going to do anything, but i dont know HOW but i have started seeing results for sure. i stopped taking it for a month but im on it again! you WILL see results FOR SURE!

  43. Jo August 13, 2010 at 6:24 am #

Have not tried the Latin seed but am thinking about it, they speak pretty highly of it at my local hf shop so will give it a go I think

  44. kailin August 18, 2010 at 9:23 pm #

How about if some of you who supposedly have tried the Latin Seed, describe the darn seed in detail for the rest of us. Is it round like a candlenut, or more flat, like the Nuez de la India you can find on e-Bay. Is it fuzzy? What about its measurements? Is it bitter, or does it taste like a Brazil nut, the way a round candlenut sold at Asian markets taste like? This would be very helpful.

    • Marylynne September 14, 2010 at 2:50 am #

i dont know how the one that they sell in Asian markets tastes, but yea it does look fuzzy and when you cut it and taste it it is bitter. I drink an eighth of it with a glass of water before bed.

  45. Jo August 19, 2010 at 11:08 pm #

Kailin, I can’t believe you would even consider buying ANY health product/food on any auction site!!! I had enough trouble with a pair of “Authentic Lee” jeans to later find out not only did they take $200 off me but what I got was obviously fake! I think it’s SO irresponsible that you would direct people there!!! If you want more information why wouldn’t you just go to one of the latin seed stockists? Why wouldn’t you contact them directly? Why don’t you read what Stella wrote?

  46. Claudia August 23, 2010 at 8:59 am #

I agree with Jo- my friend bought that coffee product from the auction site and was sick for days….She complained to ebay and got nowhere. You cant even find who the person is selling the stuff… I can’t believe anyone woould consider buying something that you consume from just anyone claiming to have the ‘real thing’… If you want to make a comparison to find the cheapest way to buy the equivalent of the latin seed – you cant value your health very highly… The latin seed has reputable businesses stocking the product- they would have done their background. Personally I like the fact that I can call these guys for support and they always answer the phone.

    • belindabel August 25, 2010 at 12:31 pm #

Hey everyone… I CAN tell which ones of these comments are fake and obviously written by someone associated with the company selling the items. I wont delete them but just be aware that I can tell and I could technically get law inforcement involved and provide them with legitamate information for fraud but I wont unless this nonsense stops. I also am allowed to have my own voice, hence my blog on this topic and what I see personally.

I’m sure this blog having such a high search rating is making the company selling Latin Seeds upset. Freedom of speech and ideas. Hence I will leave the comments here for others to peruse and make their own judgements on the low antics of the company selling these items.

Hi There, some ten years ago both my wife & I met a person at Airlie Beach Qld who gave us a handfull of “nuts” to plant. The plants grew into five beatiful trees on my property in Brisbane, over some six years I have been harvesting buckets upon buckets of nuts. The said person mentioned to me that natives were using them as a laxative, I for one have never tried to eat them but it is interesting for me to know that it has some effect on losing weight, good luck to all you folks out there & I hope you all succeed in your venture. Cheers & good luck.

    Hi Belinda,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and making it possible for other to do the same. I’m a marketing specialist myself and I’m also a big critic of some of the dodgy practices very common in the industry. I wanted to share with you and your readers, if I may, a few of my thoughts about the topic of this particular forum. Namely, the Latin Seed. I’ll be upfront with you all from the beginning. I am friends with the owners of ‘The Latin Seed’. Although I don’t really know a great deal of detail about their business, I did have a casual chat with them about it over lunch a few months ago and I thought you and your bloggers may find my thoughts somewhat interesting. Again, I must emphasise that I do not work for them, they don’t know I am writing this post and I don’t even know if they know about this blog, although I presume they probably do. Also, your readers may find it worth knowing that I am a reasonably healthy 35 year-old guy, my weight has been 62kg since I can remember and I have never taken the Latin Seed. I am writing this post, not as a health expert, but as a marketing expert. So, here are my thoughts:
    1. Price: You have expressed your concerns about the product price. From a marketing perspective, you will no doubt agree that there is much more to this product than just the seeds. Apart from the fact that their seeds do come from South America, and importing costs are reasonably high, the main cost built into the price is my friends’ salaries. They both left well paid corporate jobs with a blue-chip company in order to start this business. They are both well qualified professionals that have invested capital, time and effort and deserve to be rewarded accordingly. Assuming the seeds themselves were worth only a few dollars, and they probably are, they could not sell them for only a few dollars extra for several good reasons:
    a. They would have to sell thousands of them to just be able to pay for their salaries. Even at $100 a pack I very much doubt they are currently selling enough volume to match their previous salaries in corporate jobs. Apart from this, I understand they employ a small number of staff (at least 5) and these employees also need to be paid for their work according to Australian employment standards. Additionally, running a small business in Australia is no walk in the park. The amount of laws that small businesses need to comply with often require advice from accounting and legal professionals. Their fees, you will no doubt agree, are not precisely cheap.
    b. To reach a decent volume of sales, you not doubt will agree, any business selling a product like the Latin Seed, will have to advertise heavily. Well, unfortunately for small business owners, print, radio and TV advertising is rather costly. The very same fact that your bloggers have heard about this product implies that my friends have obviously have to spend considerable amounts in advertising. These costs, as with any other business, you will no doubt agree, need to be built into the product price.
    c. Unfortunately, We humans are so peculiar in our way of thinking, that sometimes the price needs to be significant in order for us to even consider buying the product. I was myself shopping around for a dish-washer earlier today. Those priced at $400 are probably just as good as those priced at $800; however, for some reason I, a marketing professional who should know better, find it hard to buy the $400 one and will most likely end up buying the $800 one next week. The higher price just gives me peace of mind, I suppose.
    d. Research and development is costly. I understand that very little research has taken place in relation to the seeds my friends are selling. From what I have read, which is not heaps I must admit, it seems like so far those attacking these seeds are doing so on empirical grounds. Well, I can assure you my friends are well intentioned people. This particular topic did not come up during our conversation over lunch a couple of months ago but I am sure they would be aware of the controversy and they, being decent persons, would not put people’s lives in danger purposefully just to make a few bucks. They certainly think there is more good merit to these seeds. Like most things on life, there are pros and cons, and hopefully in this case the pros out-weight the cons. Did you and your readers know, by the way, that there are piles of research pointing to the severe dangers of modern-day vaccination practices? Some well respected research even establishes strong links between vaccination and autism. I guess my point is, nothing is 100% safe and if we were to wait until research and science proofs to us that something is 100% safe then we would still be dying from silly coughs and infections. I had throat infection last week and was prescribed antibiotics. You of course know that antibiotics kill bad bacteria as well as good bacteria. In other words it also has side-effects and as such I have to compensate for them by ingesting good bacteria into my body during this period. Once again, if R&D is to happen, it will probably need to be financed by private interests. I personally don’t know if my friends spend much of their revenues on this, but it would not surprise if they do or plan to do in the near future. After all, they are certainly convinced they have a good product to offer and are on this for the long-haul. Proving the sceptics wrong will probably pay off in due course but that will take a lot of financial resources. All of a sudden $100 per pack (not per grain as your blog seems to suggests) seems rather cheap.
    e. My friends do not operate their business from a home office as some of your bloggers seem to suggest. They rent rather nice premises in a very nice area in the Hills District in Sydney’s Norwest, not far from where the Woolworths headquarters are located. I have not been to their offices but I have driven pass and they have certainly put a lot of effort and money, I presume, into making it look professional and respectable. I have no idea how much they pay in rent, electricity, internet, phone and other overheads but one thing is for sure, they all need to be factored into the price.
    f. This last point is a good one. I like to say there is only one thing worse than paying taxes and that is not paying taxes. Well, you guessed it. My friends, and their business for that matter, would be paying at least 30% tax on their profits at the moment. I think by now we all agree that their profits are probably not all that great. At least not yet as their sales volumes are not all that large. However, they obviously see great potential in their product and if such potential is realised, no doubt they stand to benefit nicely over the long term. Your analogy to the money tree is not quite accurate yet but it can certainly apply at some time in the future. There are a lot of over-weight people on this planet and if they can lose a few kilos without compromising their health too much, they will probably like to give these seeds a chance. There is a huge market potential but there is also great competition and a lot of free negative publicity.

    2. Promotion: Some of your bloggers seem to be concerned about the brand my friends have chosen for their business and their product. I personally don’t understand what the issue is. I don’t know if their seed sourced in South America is exactly the same as the one grown in Queensland or in tropical Asia. If it is, then my friends should probably consider buying them in these places themselves and reduce their own acquisition costs. The name is just that. A name. We all know where the name Coca Cola came from, however, it does not seem to matter much any more, does it? Critisizing Pepsi because it looks so much like Coke is also pointless, after all Pepsi thinks their drink has something different to offer and those whi drink it seem to agree. Speaking of coke, I stopped drinking the stuff since I was 15. I used to drink maybe a bottle a day and that was enough to give me an ulcer. I still have a very unpleasant memory of the endoscopy I had to undergo. I was no happy camper! We all know Coke is not great for our health. We all know it is pretty much good for nothing actually, or should I say bad for everything. We all know, technically speaking, that it only costs a few cents to fill up a whole bottle yet they sell it to us for several dollars (they too have to pay for their employees’ wages, their expensive advertising and their overheads). We all know that we can buy similar cola drinks for much less (which are also good for nothing) on the shelf next door in the super market, however, I don’t see anyone giving them a tough time over this.
    3. Product: I don’t know much about their product. Judging from the contributions to this forum, it seems to me like most people are reasonably happy with it and seem to be more interested in buying a less costly substitute than in discontinuing its usage altogether. My friends claim that their seeds are special because of the properties typical of the environment in which they are grown. Some may prejudge this as a lot of rubbish. I personally would give them the benefit of the doubt and wait to be proven otherwise. After all, we all know that Coffee grown in Kenya, Colombia or Brazil is considerably better than that grown in other parts of the world. We all know, although I cannot testify from experience, that coca leaves and marijuana grown in South America are better liked by those who enjoy their wonders. I could give you a million examples like these and I am sure you all can think of many examples yourselves. One thing I do know though, the Amazon is a magic place, magic seeds can probably be found in there somewhere. So, in this regard I give their seeds the benefit of the doubt.
I find it disappointing that in order to critically review a product some people see the need to use aggressive and defamatory terminology. For example ‘Iffy’ or ‘scam’ are terms that I, as a professional business person, would think twice before using and actually try and avoid at all costs. They can cause unnecessary damage to people’s and businesses reputation and not necessarily help those they are supposedly intending to help. The last thing consumers need is expensive court legal costs to be factored into the product’s price too. It is a lose-lose situation for everyone involved.
    4. Physical Distribution: I understand my friends use distributors and also sell directly by post. Well, nothing wrong with this, except that both methods need to be priced into the product. Postage is not for free, especially since they like to use registered post. Distributors obviously take a commission and these too need to be priced into the final product price. So some of your bloggers don’t like the packaging they use. I don’t know how many different packaging types they use but I have actually seen one and I don’t think it is all that bad. Could it be better? Sure, there is always room for improvements. However, have you no doubt heard the very wise popular sayings “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and “Never judge a book by its cover”? Well, I would encourage you all to do that. Also, take into account that packaging, even of the most modest type, also cost something to produce and hence need to be priced accordingly into the product. We would all agree that coke can probably be sold cheaper if sold in a plastic bag. But I don’t think you would like to drink it out of a dirty looking bag, would you? Well, bottles and cans are more pleasant but also more costly and certainly built into the price of coke too.
Well, I only meant to write a short post but I got carried away. My apologies if I have bored you to death. I thank you once again for providing the space for this free exchange of idea. I hope some of my comments have been useful to you or your readers and bloggers. I will visit your blog later on to see if anyone has offered further comments. I do hope, and would very much appreciate it, if any responses to my posting are done gently, respectfully and in a friendly manner. I certainly have no intention to initiate a heated argument over this very subjective topic and cope any insults unnecessarily.

Best wished to you all and happy searching for that one thing that will help you achieve your goals whatever they are.

I have just taken my first 1/4 seed today….I understand all the criticism. I’m a medical student and I’m willing to give it a go!!! I saw it on a current affair and it looked interesting Will keep y’al posted!

  51. Brooke Eliza September 1, 2010 at 6:37 am #

I have been on the Latin seed for about a week and a half now…. So far no weight loss as far as I can tell anyway. I have however been very tired and had head aches and probably the worst of all side effects….. frequent toilet trips unlike I have ever experienced before along with cramping which was considerably worse in the first 4 days but is easing off now. I have been told the real benefits may not be noticeable for at leat a month of use so I’m willing to stick it out until then. I noticed some people have experienced similar side affects did they ever get better or go away, especially the toilet issue??

I think they suggest more potassium is consumed coz potassium breaks down acids and from the nutritional guide it seems to contain alot of acids… something to ponder??

Oh and something else strange …. I kinda felt sore all over in the first week its hard to explain felt like my body was brusied all over but no actuall bruising could be seen. My lower back has been very tender particularly a few days ago but it seems to feel a bit better now… I only worry because this is also where the kidneys are located and recently I read an article on the Candle nut and apparently it should NOT be taken if you have any heart, Liver or kidney problems, didn’t state why though. I don’t have kindey problems but it makes me a little worried never the less. Anyone else had this side effect??

    • Cindy November 15, 2010 at 5:58 am #

      Hi Brooke,

I have the same thing as you…lots of toilet trips and the body aching like its been bruised….even my face is hurting! I got a scare when the muscles below my breasts felt sore to touch, but that has all passed now. The tops of my legs are sore now….no headaches, just keep up your water intake as soon as you get up try and drink as much as you can. You’ll prob find you’re dehydrated. Keep me posted on your progress. I’ve been on it for 2 weeks yesterday and lost 3kgs.

I also saw the latin seed for the first time on a current affair a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try. i have only been taking it for the last two nights and have not experienced any side effects as yet…. i have read that i am supposed to crush? the seed before i put it into the water, does this make a difference than just putting the 1/8th in? i am glad to see a site on this because i was hesitant about trying the latin seed but really hope that it works 🙂

  54. Ange September 26, 2010 at 12:06 pm #

    Hey Brooke…
I hear you, i had the same effects…sore all over, even found it hard to sleep because of the pain… also had the headaches and was always tired… i’ve been on it for ruffly two weeks i’m hoping it goes away… gave myself two days rest from the seed… going to give it another try hopefully see some results after 30 days as i am yet to see any … keep me informed with your progress

  55. Jules September 28, 2010 at 6:24 am #

    Hi Everyone
Have been on the seed for one month. Skin feels softer and a little firmer then it did previously. Yes,the toilet trips are annoyint, but I suppose one has to get rid of all the rubbish that is stored inside and for so long too. I have gone down a size and am still losing. I was a puffy size 16 and this was pushing it.Now a NOT AT ALL puffy size 14 and still losing. I do not crave sugary or fatty foods anymore and the smell of fried foods is ughly. I am choosing healthier foods now and I feel so much happier and healthier. The most important thing is that I do not feel FAT and all the bloating is not there. I will stay on this product as I am happy with the results. The cost is nothing, for all those that complain would always complain about something.
This has been the easiest thing that I have ever taken or used. My life is still my own and I can eat whatever I want. For now I like healthy food and I do not eat large amounts nor eat all day.
Stress does not bother me like it use to and my life has improved so very much.
My weekend do not consist of a pantry full of chocolates and lollies. My fridge does not have 3 different cakes in it from the Cheesecake shop.
I use to eat 1 cheesecake every 2 days. I use to have I packet of potatoe chips and 6 blocks of chocolates in the cupboard.
After 2 weeks on the seed I was down to 1 cheesecake a week and 3 chocolates in the cupboard.
Now I am down to 3 chocolates in the cupboard.

I will and am determined to get my size 10 and fit body back again…

It does work if you just give it a go…

And for all those that doubt or complain, well,no doubt you will still be complaining this time next year about something else.

HI Interesting read. I like others I suspect , would be interested to see a photo comparasson of the different nuts. If it can be grown in Brisbane, what is the name of the tree. Maybe we should all plant one and just make sure we treat the tree nice and dont spray it. Sounds like One tree would be plenty!

  57. nat October 8, 2010 at 10:26 am #

hi everyone, i started taking the latin seed 4months ago, i lost about 8kg and a dress size but then it slowed right up, im currently not taking it due to a false preg scare but will start again next week, i think 8kg weight loss is pretty ok considering i drink like a tank and love my chocolate and havent changed my diet or exercised any extra.. which i know if i did it would prob work a whole lot better…

  58. Nettie October 13, 2010 at 12:12 am #

Well I don’t know about loosing weight while taking this seed but I have lost 5kg in 7days by taking HCG drops, do some research on that Belinda, I think you will find that it actually works. Thanks Nettie.

  59. Jules October 13, 2010 at 1:07 am #

    Jules again
Well, there have been no more cheesecakes in the house (or me). The great thing that I am finding is that I DO NOT CRAVE any more CRAP!
I do not enjoy chocolate when I eat it and had the taste of potatoe chips now.
It has been a little expensive for me,as I buy some chips (old habit) and eat one and then say ‘Yuk!’. So far out of 3 packets I have bought they have ended up in the bin. As for hot chips, just the thought of all that grease is enough to put me off.
I have tried so many ways to loose weight before and nothing, nothing compares with this Latin Seed.
Yes! it does make you go to the toilet, but it is great,as any crap that you eat does not stay in the body, but is eliminated not to soon after. This must mean less time for it to get toxic in the body and less time to block ones system and create more cellulite (FAT).
I am happy to be fitting into a size 14 at the moment. I am so greatful that I do not feel like a bloated toad.
And this is only the beginning.
My arms are so much less FAT and dimpled looking and you know!!!!!

The best thing is that I STILL HAVE NOT DONE A EXERCISE REGIME !
Just day to day stuff and work. My body is slowly getting into shape and as far as I am concerned it is happening in a natural way.
My 18 year old daughter is also taking the Latin Seed and for the past 6years,(due to emotional dramas) has had her adrenial glands block up in the lower part of her body eg: from knees down to feet.
So she has hated the fact that she has had CANKLES!!!!
    No ankles!!
Her legs got fatter too,so imagine how horrible she has felt and just think of all the crap that she went through at school, with all those rotten kids that always have to bully.
She is a beautiful looking girl and her self image was wiped clean because of CANKLES and bitchy girls (and boys) at school.

As my body is changing for the better,I thought,I wonder how my daughter is going. Sometimes it is difficult to notice these things when you live together.
I was trying to catch a glimse of her ankles (as this being a sensitive area of her body to talk about) and as I looked I could see a remarkable differance in them.

I said to her,”Let me look at your ankles?”

I told her that I could see a bit differance in them and that I could actuall see her ankle bone. She is beginning to get her ankles back instead of the CANKLES.

How do you think she felt to be told that and to actually see a change in this part of her body.

To all of those that have such an empty life and have the need to always put things down. Why do you always have to try and put your unhappiness onto other people.
We are all individual people and can do what the heck we choose to do.
At least we who are taking the Latin Seed and getting results.
    GOOD ON US !
We want to make a Better change within ourselves.

  60. Emily October 20, 2010 at 10:11 pm #

I actually know plenty of people that have tried it including myself. I love it. As for my friends (they hooked me onto this), swear by it. I lost 4 dress sizes and couldn’t be happier. Give Latin seed a call if you’re not sure, they are so friendly. maybe they sucked me in but I’ve had no disappointments only results.

    Em 🙂

Oh hello “Emily” also known as Claudia, Jo, Dom, Stace, Beth, Sam and Sarah. It is quite obvious that you are the owners of the company and as I have mentioned before, I have evidence to prove that you are posing as different people and it is not doing your business any good at all. It is easy to see through your facade, particularly from my end where I can tell who is who. I hope that everyone who reads this takes note of this low act. Let me state for the millionth time. I am not a doctor, I do not care if the product works or not, All this blog is about is marketing…. and by the company itself coming on here and posing as consumers… well that speaks for itself as dodgy marketing.

I have personally used the latin seed and did have side effects. However my stomach started to shrink which was great and i was losing weight

  61. wendy October 22, 2010 at 2:11 am #

im on my second box of latin seed, barely even changed my diet except that my appetite has decreased a bit so i guess Im not eating as much crap but ive also lost about 6kg on it without doing anything so yeah im very satisfied and am looking forward to the next coming weeks especially coming up to summer

  62. james October 29, 2010 at 7:16 am #

your statement that the seed is found in north queensland maybe so but the climate up there is much dryer and the humidity is different. I have read where certain herbs have a better potency from certain regions e.g tribullus saponin content higher if from Bulgaria. the seed does sound weird however.
But the TGA in Australia is very strict with natural supplements so I have a huge doubt that it would be poisonous.

But to weather is it effective or not is another thing.

  63. Greg November 8, 2010 at 1:44 am #

Well, it’s obvious that the owners of the company promoting this product are very defensive at the onset of their marketing campaign as it is clear that they pose here as users of their products under different names. I tend to bend toward belindabel’s comments on this one.
Before purchasing their product ask them to provide documented evidence of the safe testing, the approvals, the long term efficacy including all potential side effects. You don’t see anything real mentioned about “contradictions”. This leaves them open to legal proceedings if someone has a stroke, a heart attack and dies. The contradictions should be a list of potential indicators noted during LONG TERM testing on rats. In this case, use this product at YOUR OWN RISK!

  64. Greg November 8, 2010 at 1:46 am #

    Contraindications not contradictions

  65. kaylie November 14, 2010 at 2:09 am #

hey i dont know much technical stuff about latin seed but i think the goverment wouldnt let them sell it if it wasnt tested or it was dangerous

  66. Ezza Rich November 15, 2010 at 4:44 am #

Well…I’ve been taking the seed now for about a month with amazing results! I’m only taking a 1/8 a day as 1/4 made me feel a bit sick….I started at 63 kgs and am now sitting happily at 57kgs….My thighs and arms feel tighter….My stomach is flatter than its been since I had my son 5 years ago…I am one very very happy customer! I will be staying on this baby for a while.

Also, random, but my fingernails are heaps stronger than they have been before! The toilet trips never seemed to ease but now its just a simple as soon as I get up thing….Feel so much less bloated and its great to be regular finally!

I should also note that I have noticed my appetite being suppressed but otherwise I have not changed my diet dramatically.

    Very happy girl.

  67. Anna November 15, 2010 at 11:18 am #

Just reading through the comments. I started on the latin seed probably about 5-6 weeks ago. Instead of losing weight, I have gained about 3 kgs. I find this weird considering I have intentionally tried to stop eating the same amount of junk food as I normally do. Appetite seems to be the same. Nothing feels different at all.

All i wanted to do was lose 4 kg. Now, i need to lose double it. I do not know whether it is due to the seed or not. However, I will finish off the packet and will let you know whether it works or not. Hopefully it does. Otherwise, I am worse off than when i first started!

  68. Rachel November 15, 2010 at 11:23 am #

i guess you can say this blog is full of positive and negative comments, all i can give is my story and what it has done for me.
My mum came across it first, using it to shed some kilos, she noticed a change in size instantly. Why not give it ago? i had been suffering from IBS for years and as many of you out there may know, it can be the worst, most uncomfortable and terrible problem to have. After being constantly tested by doctors, eliminating all types of foods and going on strict diets to help me, the Latin Seed did what doctors couldn’t. although i was a little uncomfortable in the first couple of weeks (something i was already use to) it was all worth it. slowly the cramping disappeared and the daily bloating was no longer visible (every afternoon i looked about 6mths pregnant). i started to enjoy the foods i ate, something i worried for so long about.a few weeks into it i also noticed a change in my size and could not be happier. it was what i was looking for.
With any product you get, you will never know until you try it. You’re not always going to be happy, maybe its not the exact colour you wanted, maybe it wasn’t a perfect fit, maybe you didn’t like the taste of it after you ordered it or maybe its just not for you. Life is too short to be constantly complaining, good for you, you gave it a go, don’t try and make the decision for others. give your opinion and move on. good luck guys

Ive been taking the Latin seed for 1 week, i feel nauseous, i have pains in my body, and my face is aching, can someone tell me if this is normal?

    • belindabel November 30, 2010 at 10:20 am #

See your doctor and stop taking it. I think that would be the normal thing to do.

  70. Faree December 9, 2010 at 8:31 pm #

I regularly visit and see this blog, to see how others are doing with the seed, i posted first on 18th May here, you can read my posts. I started it on 25th April, and since then, I am consistently using it, it did’nt got good results, so I was confused, but now, as of today I went down from 182lb to 160lb, so 22 pounds lost in seven and a half months…. I didnt changed any diet, but, i think due to this product I dont feel that much hunger. I am not very active so I donot do any exercises, just normal home tasks, like cooking dishwashing etc.
my tummy is flatter and hips are reduced from 47′ to 43′ i was never able to reduce from my hips being az pear. I am so glad, but the only thing now i am concerned is that I am also loosing my breasts which I donot like…. anyways, just came here to tell all, that latin seed is basically nuez india, DONOt pay so much to latin seed company, they just have the different package, the same seed I buy from Ebay for $12- $16 you can buy it from any seller their. save ur money…. but for product, it DOES work…

  71. Crys December 13, 2010 at 9:52 am #

I dont use the Latin seed for weight loss rather IBS, I had it fro years. It basically keeps me feeling ‘normal’ not as bloated and constipated all the time. i buy mine from a chemist nearby. for weight loss i dont know but it has helped me with my IBS.

  72. monique December 14, 2010 at 5:41 am #

I have been on the Latin seed for over a month and i have had no results. I will not be buying the product again and i will just stick to my running and diet, changing them until i find something that works for my body.

  73. Anna December 15, 2010 at 12:04 pm #

I posted here a month ago. I used the Latin seed for two months and it didn’t nothing for me.

From what other users have said.. it might take longer than two months? 7 months for Faree. That’s quite a while.

    I have stopped using it.

  74. Jamie January 2, 2011 at 7:10 am #

I tried it, its the biggest scam ever!!! Didn’t work & felt tired. Dont waste your money!!!

  75. Alex January 4, 2011 at 3:30 am #

I was tired in the beginning too, you just need to make sure you stick to a decent diet. They told me I needed at least a banana a day. Since that first week I’ve gone down about 5 kg.

  76. bonnie January 15, 2011 at 9:53 am #

I started the latin seed last sunday, im super sore, very tired, but my friends friend swears by it if you can just get thru the first few weeks- apparently her mother took it for over a year and is super slim and ate what ever she wantd, so my idea is to eat right, exersise and ill be half the time.. so my friend and i we are both giving it a go. im not a friend of the scales so im not judging it by the scales yet, as ive just had a baby.. and scales depress me.. anyways today was the first time i have been told in a long time ” gee bonnie youve lost weight” so im guessing it is working.. also my friend is going thru the same symptoms but slowly going away

  77. Zara February 14, 2011 at 2:38 am #

I have been on the Latin Seed for 9 days now, for the first few days it flushed me out (alot of toilet trips) i was tired and i had belly cramps but now i am feeling fine, i try to eat yohurt and a banana everyday. I dont weigh or measure myself so im just going to go off my body changes and how my clothes fit, its only been 9 days so i will repost again in a few mths. As with my diet i feel i am less hungry but i will not deprive my body, if i feel like chocolate i will have chocolate! Exercise well Meh! i will go for a walk every now and then. I am keeping up with the water and find i go for water more now instead of pepsi max, coke zero. I take a quarter of the seed (crushed)in a cup of hot water, i wait for 5 mins before i drink. I have heard and read alot about this seed and its getting very popular, so im giving it a try to see how i go:-)

  78. Bel March 7, 2011 at 1:49 am #

Hi, I use the Latin seed to help my nails.only about 2times a week to make them stronger,it actually did help them they are stronger and don’t split. I have been taking it for about 4 months still on the first box, it was recommended by a lady I know who owns a beauty salon.

  79. Susan March 11, 2011 at 4:14 am #

Interesting forum. I am on my second box of latin seed. When I started taking the first one…i took the recommended dose of 1/8 each night for 3 nights and then didn’t take it again for about another four days. I experienced pain in my belly and I spent the next four days with my butt glued to the toilet seat every morning (it didn’t interfere with my days while at work, only first thing in the morning) That must be the reason you should take the seed at night, but as early in the evening as possible before going to bed otherwise, you get held up in the morning on the loo.
When I got to the second week of taking it, I noticed every muscle in my body including facial, underarms, neck, groin..areas on me that I wasn’t even aware of were sore, like I had been to the gym and done a hard workout. I didn’t know what was wrong with me.
I booked in to see my doctor because I thought I had dengue fever. I had my bloods taken and they were perfect.
I rang the company because I knew that was the only thing I was doing that was different. They told me that was a good sign to be feeling the aches and that it would go away soon.
I have lost weight, I don’t have a set of scales (because I hate them) but I’m fitting really nicely into my clothing that before latin seed were tight to wear.
Here is some information regarding potassium –
    info from
Potassium is a very important mineral for the proper function of all cells, tissues, and organs in the human body. It is also an electrolyte, a substance that conducts electricity in the body, along with sodium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium. Potassium is crucial to heart function and plays a key role in skeletal and smooth muscle contraction, making it important for normal digestive and muscular function, too. Many foods contain potassium, including all meats, some types of fish (such as salmon, cod, and flounder), and many fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Dairy products are also good sources of potassium.

I have started my second box of latin seed, however, I tend to stick to taking it on a Friday night because I don’t have time for belly aches during the week when I have to work. The first 2 nights again I feel the muscle pain.
I’m not sure what to think of the product now. I actually feel better for taking it so I just thought i would tell you my experience with the product. $200.00 later and feeling better.

    • belindabel March 11, 2011 at 11:15 am #

So you are saying that it makes you very sick and impairs the way you live your life and then you finish by saying”$200.00 later and feeling better.” do you really think that is correct?

      • Susan March 15, 2011 at 8:57 am #

Having second thoughts now that I know why I’ve been having a racing heart. I thought it was from being stressed with studying and work but it’s obviously the Latin Seed. Didn’t put any of it down to the seed.
It does give me belly pain and diarrhea of a morning. Now that you mention it, yes it does impair my life every morning in fact.
I have also had dizziness but again put that down to my neck being out. Belinda I think the people all saying this is bad are right.
They just said on Today Tonight that under microscope they found the seed is derived from yellow oleander seed which is toxic. I think I so much wanted to believe this stuff was working (it strips fat) and my health away from me obviously.

  80. Justin M. March 13, 2011 at 10:49 pm #

Boy oh boy there are some aggressive… i’ll call them advocates (likely astro turf)… here. Haha. I was actually talked into buying these. I’ll let you all know how it goes. I’m going on a pretty strict diet here in the next 4 weeks, so it will be hard to tell you what affects can be attributed to the nuez de la india seeds, but I’ll try to explain any feelings or responses I get. Will post again soon!

  81. nicole March 14, 2011 at 7:29 am #

I also bought this product but found I was feeling not so great so stopped using it.
This past weekend in the paper there was an article in regards to “latin seed” and “slim seed” they are being recalled because the are highly toxic to the heart!
The seeds are actually from the poisonous yellow oleander.
They are advising you to stop taking right away and they are being removed from the shelves. Anyone who has concerns should seek medical advice. This company has been fined (although it’s only a whopping $1760) and is being placed on the NSW food authority name and shame list.
You would be incredibly reckless if you continued to take this product!!!!!!
If you want to confirm this it was in the Sun Herald Sunday March 13, 2011
I will be taking mine back and expecting a full refund!!

  82. nicole March 14, 2011 at 7:32 am #

Killed adults, children, pets, and livestock

The American Cancer Society notes of the plant: “Oleander extracts — in carefully controlled doses — are in the early phases of testing to find out whether they are effective in treating cancer. There have been numerous reports of poisoning and death from ingestion of oleander, oleander leaf tea, and its extracts. It has killed adults, children, pets, and livestock. Even a small amount of oleander can cause death due to its effects on the heart.

  83. louella March 14, 2011 at 10:36 am #

not only is it dodgy it is toxic – check out:–highly-toxic-nsw-food-au

Plant seeds marketed as slimming products under the labels ‘The Latin Seed’ and ‘Slim Seed’ have been recalled after DNA testing revealed the products were made from a prohibited and toxic plant.

According to the NSW Food Authority, the slimming seed products, which are sold online and in selected health food stores, do not contain the Aleurites moluccana species (commonly known as Candle Nut) – as suggested on the packaging – but instead, contain a “highly toxic” plant called Yellow oleander.

According to the Queensland Government Poisons Information Centre, Yellow oleander, which has been listed as prohibited product under the Food Standards Code, has caused the deaths of several children. Symptoms of Yellow oleander poisoning include vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness and a slow or irregular heartbeat.

The NSW Food Authority has advised the distributors of the slimming seed products to withdraw and discontinue sales. The Authority said that anyone concerned with potential health effects of these products should seek medical advice.

  84. Crys March 14, 2011 at 11:49 am #

all you negative people should maybe do some more research before you dis this product.for starters the yellow oleander is a massive seed about 10 time the size of the latin seed. if u have taken the product and seen massive results like my self, with NO heart troubles, then take a stand and realise that not evrything you read is true.the seed has changed my life.

    • belindabel March 14, 2011 at 11:08 pm #

Im sure the NSW government would have done a lot of research. Perhaps if you like research you can contact them.

  85. lu searl March 15, 2011 at 3:43 am #

well the australian government has done a full product recall on them i have been taking it for about a week and was trying to call someone to find out why i was so constipated and feeling so unwell. im a very fit person i do an hour in the gym everyday and i have enterd into a weightloss competition and thought the seed might give me the edge over the other compeditiors but it did the opposite it has made me so constipated and i have put on 3kgs and so ill i have stopped taking immediatly iv gone from a very healthy person to a very ill one. Definitly big SCAMMERS

  86. Ellie March 17, 2011 at 3:49 am #

30 years ago my mother used to warn me to stay away from the oleanders because they were so poisonous. Who in their right mind would try to market such a thing? And why, is there some similarity between the Brazillian plant and the Australian Oleander? Oh I get it, Oleanders grow like weeds in Australia, or should I say money trees – it never ceases to amaze me how there can be such evil greedy people as those who manufacture this product.
My friend nearly died of this, her heart began to race so dramatically at night she could hear it hammering in her ears putting her at great risk of heart attack or stroke. Also loss of sleep, severe muscle cramps all over her body and diarrhea. The weight loss did occur but her health plummetted. She also experienced anxiety which she put down to other factors but her general unwellness was all due to this product.

If you are taking this stuff, PLEASE dont risk it, Stop taking it immediately and refer to the helpful links the others have put on here!

    • Michelle Man April 19, 2011 at 12:50 pm #

      Hi Ellie

I’m a journalism student and am interested in doing an article on The Latin Seed. Would either you or your friend be interested in being interviewed for this article? It should only take around 5 minutes.

I’d be interested in knowing your experiences with Latin Seed and how you feel about it now that it has been revealed to be something other than what was advertised.

If you (or any other posters/readers) would like to talk to me, please email me at

I would really appreciate any comments you have to make. My deadline is 10am Thursday 21 April – so a quick reply would be great!

  87. nicole March 17, 2011 at 4:18 am #

Yes these use these nuts in India for suicide.
Is losing weight worth the risk?
And as for Crys, your off your fricking rocker!
I too also experienced racing heartbeat and anxiety as well as feeling so horrible I had to stop taking it.
Anyone in the know of whether there will be a lawsuit please let us know.
I or one will be taking action.

    • belindabel March 17, 2011 at 5:18 am #

Have you ever seen the movie White Oleander with Michelle Pfeiffer? She uses Oleander to kill her boyfriend (Billy Connoly) in the movie. It’s a great movie despite is being a bit mind warping. I cant believe they put Oleander in the boxes!!!

  88. Crys March 19, 2011 at 11:53 am #

many weight loss products are manufactured like shakes etc.. who knows what goes in them. But i dont think it is possible to ‘manufacture’ something that comes from nature. You cant manufacture nuts like almonds and walnuts can you. and you cant alter the ingredients of a natural nut.

    • belindabel March 20, 2011 at 2:45 am #

yes it is natural.. naturally toxic.

  89. Eddy March 20, 2011 at 4:26 am #

I’ve been taking the Latin seed for close to 5 months now, I experienced some small side effects as in more toilet breaks than usual, muscle aches here and there but after a couple of weeks it faded and i started seeing results. i personally find it funny how everyone starts freaking out when the media starts some shit on it, anyone with half a brain knows that only about 50% of what you see on the news is true the rest is b/s for entertainment come on people. I personally did some research on the yellow oleander and its a completely different seed look it up for yourself.. and for the people with heart problems maybe thats because of your diet haha stop eating maccas and do some exercise that’ll help 😉

    • nicole March 29, 2011 at 2:19 am #

They do not pull a product off the shelves “for entertainment”……you’d not have “maccas” because you know it’s not good for you even though you can legally buy it. But you’ll defend a product that has been pulled off of shelves and placed on the NSW food authority name and shame list…..not only that it makes you feel less than great?? Give yer head a shake.
And if they were on the up and up then why shut off the website? and not answer their phones? They are not even taking calls from their stockists.
C’mon people I am sure this is not your first diet, we all know there are many diet scams and fads out there and I for one half expect it for the most part. But I am not going to risk taking something that makes me feel like garbage and has been SHUT DOWN. And NO I don’t eat Maccas!

  90. Mary March 27, 2011 at 9:38 pm #

I have read all of your comments and find it very interesting. Well, I just bought the Indian Nut On Saturday from my Doctor and will be taking it tonight. I have been overweight my entire life, tried every diet in the book, lost all the weight and then gain it back and some. I will come back in 1 month and let you guys know the honest truth about this product.

  91. havaianas April 17, 2011 at 4:54 am #

My friends have lost weight with this Brazilian candle nut. They look good and have no complaints at all. They continue to exercise and watch their diet.
